Air con not cooling, a cool room running warm, or a commercial fridge that won’t hold temperature? LJ Refrigeration & Air-Conditioning handles air conditioning repairs across Adelaide for homes and businesses, and repairs commercial refrigeration, from fridges and freezers to complete cool rooms and freezer rooms.

We find the actual fault, tell you what the repair will cost before we start, and fix it properly, rather than resetting the unit and hoping it holds. Our vans are fully equipped and we carry common parts, so most repairs are finished on the first visit.

How a repair works with us

  1. You call. We ask what the equipment is, what it’s doing and where you are, then give you a realistic timeframe.
  2. We diagnose on site. We test the system properly: refrigerant, electrical, fans, sensors, controls and airflow. Plenty of faults look the same from the outside, so we don’t guess.
  3. We give you the price first. You know the cost of the repair before any work starts.
  4. We fix it. With common parts on the van, most faults are fixed on the spot. If a part has to be ordered, we’ll tell you how long it’s likely to take and what can be done in the meantime.
  5. We explain what happened. You’ll know what failed, why, and what to watch for.

Common air conditioning faults we fix

We repair split systems, multi-head splits and ducted systems in homes, offices, shops and venues. These are the problems we’re called about most:

  • Not cooling or not heating. Often a blocked filter or coil, a refrigerant leak, a failed fan or a sensor fault. See why your air conditioner isn’t cooling and split system not heating properly.
  • Weak airflow. Dirty filters and coils, a failing indoor fan, or ductwork that’s crushed or disconnected. See how to fix weak airflow.
  • Water leaking from the indoor unit. Usually a blocked or poorly graded drain, sometimes ice forming on the coil. See why your aircon is leaking water.
  • Ice on the pipes or coil. A sign of low refrigerant or restricted airflow. Switch the system off and call us.
  • Noises. Rattling, grinding, squealing or loud clicking from the indoor or outdoor unit.
  • Bad smells. Mould or bacteria in the coil, drain pan or fan. See why your aircon smells.
  • Tripping the power, won’t turn on, or error codes. Electrical and control faults that need proper testing.
  • Outdoor unit not running, or running but the house never cools down. Compressor and capacitor faults sit here. See signs of compressor failure.
  • Ducted zones not working. Rooms that are always too hot or cold, or zones that won’t open or close. See ducted zoning problems.

Quick checks before you call

  • Check the remote or wall controller: correct mode (cool or heat), sensible set temperature, working batteries.
  • Check the circuit breaker for the air conditioner in your switchboard.
  • Clean or check the indoor filters if you can reach them.
  • Make sure the outdoor unit isn’t blocked by plants, boxes or covers.
  • If it keeps tripping power, smells of burning or is icing up, leave it off and call us.

Commercial fridge, freezer and cool room faults

Our refrigeration repairs are commercial only: cafés, restaurants, pubs, butchers, bakeries, shops, supermarkets, wineries and food businesses. Faults we fix regularly include:

  • Cool room or freezer room not holding temperature, or warming up through the day. See cool room not holding temperature.
  • Freezer not freezing, product softening, or heavy ice on the evaporator.
  • Commercial fridge running non-stop but never getting cold.
  • Display fridges and multi-deck cases with warm spots or slow recovery after restocking.
  • Torn or flattened door seals, doors not closing, and heater wire faults on freezer doors.
  • Fans not running, or noisy fans and compressors.
  • Water leaking from the unit or pooling on the cool room floor.
  • Controller alarms, error codes, defrost faults and sensor problems.
  • Refrigerant leaks. See how to spot refrigerant leaks.
  • Ice machines not making ice, and blast chillers not pulling down in time.

Stock at risk? Urgent refrigeration repairs

If a cool room, freezer or commercial fridge has stopped and stock is warming up, call 1300 553 744 straight away. Keep the doors shut, write down the temperature and the time, and move high-risk stock to another unit if you can. Within our hours (Monday to Friday, 7am to 6pm) we aim to respond fast, same-day where possible, and we’ll tell you honestly when we can get there. We don’t offer 24/7 call-outs. See urgent commercial refrigeration repair.

Repair or replace?

Most faults are worth repairing: fans, sensors, controllers, seals, capacitors and drains are all straightforward. When the compressor has failed on an older unit, a system keeps leaking refrigerant, or parts are no longer available, replacement can make more sense. We’ll give you an honest answer and price both options if it’s close. See repair or replace your air conditioner and repair or replace a commercial fridge.

Why call LJ for repairs

  • Licensed technicians. Licensed refrigeration and air-conditioning technicians on every job. ARCtick refrigerant trading authorisation AU43203.
  • Fault-finding first. We test before we replace parts, so you’re not paying for guesswork.
  • Price before we start. No surprises on the invoice.
  • Parts on the van. Fully equipped vans with common parts mean fewer return visits.
  • Local people. A small crew based in Angle Vale. You talk to the people who do the work.
  • Straight timeframes. If we can come today, we’ll say so. If we can’t, we’ll tell you that too.

Prevent the next breakdown

Most breakdowns give warning signs first: longer run times, a fan getting noisy, a dusty condenser or a tired door seal. Regular servicing picks those up early. See our aircon servicing guide, commercial air conditioning maintenance and refrigeration maintenance contracts.

Where we do repairs

From Angle Vale we cover all of Adelaide, plus Gawler, the Barossa, the Adelaide Hills, McLaren Vale and the Fleurieu. See our service areas. For jobs further from our base we’ll give you an honest timeframe when you call. You can also browse all our services.

No. Our hours are Monday to Friday, 7am to 6pm. We’d rather be upfront about that than promise a response we can’t deliver.
