A commercial fridge that won’t hold temperature costs you stock, space and time. LJ Refrigeration & Air-Conditioning repairs commercial fridges and freezers for cafés, restaurants, pubs, shops and food businesses across Adelaide and surrounds.

We find the actual fault, tell you what it’ll cost before we start, and fix it properly — not just get it limping along until next time.

Fault-find first, then fix

Plenty of fridge faults look the same from the outside: it’s warm, it’s noisy or it’s running non-stop. The cause can be anything from a cheap sensor to a compressor. We test properly before we recommend anything, so you’re not paying for parts you didn’t need.

We carry common parts and aim to fix most faults on the first visit where we can. If a part has to be ordered, we’ll tell you how long it’s likely to take and what your options are in the meantime.

Common reasons we get called out

  • Fridge not cold enough or temperature creeping up through the day
  • Freezer not freezing or product softening
  • Running constantly and never cycling off
  • Ice build-up on the evaporator or inside the cabinet
  • Water leaking under or inside the unit
  • Loud, rattling or clicking noises from fans or the compressor
  • Fans not running — inside or at the condenser
  • Door seals torn, flattened or not closing
  • Controller or thermostat faults, error codes or alarms
  • Unit tripping power

A lot of these come back to a dirty condenser coil. In a hot kitchen or behind a bar, condensers clog fast with grease, dust and lint, and the fridge has to work much harder to keep up. It’s one of the most common — and most preventable — causes of breakdowns.

Repair or replace?

We’ll give you an honest answer. As a rough guide:

Usually worth repairing:

  • Fans, door seals, controllers, thermostats, sensors, defrost parts
  • Minor leaks that can be found and repaired properly
  • Units that are otherwise in good condition

Worth weighing up replacement:

  • Compressor failure on an older, cheaper unit
  • Repeat refrigerant leaks or corrosion through coils
  • A unit that’s been breaking down regularly
  • Parts that are no longer available

If it’s close, we’ll give you a price for both so you can make the call. For more, see common commercial refrigeration mistakes and top signs of compressor failure.

Need more than a fridge repair?

To cut down on breakdowns, a refrigeration maintenance plan keeps condensers clean and catches worn parts before they fail.

We aim to respond as fast as possible and will give you a realistic timeframe when you call. Many faults can be fixed on the first visit; if a part needs ordering, we’ll tell you how long it’s likely to take. Our hours are Monday to Friday, 7am to 6pm.

Do you repair all brands of commercial fridge?

We repair most commercial fridges and freezers used in Adelaide cafés, restaurants, pubs and shops. Tell us the brand and model when you call and we’ll let you know.

How much does a commercial fridge repair cost?

It depends on the fault and the parts needed. We’ll diagnose it and tell you the cost before we do the repair, so there are no surprises on the invoice.

My commercial fridge is running but not cold — what should I check first?

Make sure the door is closing and sealing properly, nothing is blocking the vents inside, and the condenser (usually at the bottom or back) isn’t clogged with dust or grease. If it’s still warm, move your stock to another unit and call us.

Do you repair domestic fridges?

No. We work on commercial refrigeration for businesses. For homes, we service, repair and install air conditioning.
